Built by 100 German masons over 6 years, the 9,300 square foot Castle is constructed of local silica sandstone, painstakingly brought to the property by horse and wagon in the Gilded Age. The Castle has been modernized over the years while retaining its classic charm, including a lavish ballroom complete with two stone fireplaces and Grand Staircase. With a dungeon tucked into a secret passageway, griffins providing stony vigilance, steep topography maximizing natural defense, and a turreted rooftop with battlements and a spectacular view, the Castle hearkens back to European traditions.

Scenes from "The Nutcracker" Come to Berkeley Springs Castle

Step into a living Christmas postcard at the Berkeley Springs Castle. This season, the historic halls will come alive with the magic of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, performed in an intimate setting you'll never forget. Dancers from the Virginia Youth Ballet, in full costume, will present select scenes from the iconic ballet—first staged in 1892, during the Castle's own heyday.

This is not a traditional, seated performance. Instead, you are welcome to explore the Castle's three floors of exquisite Christmas decorations including a 13-foot tall life Christmas tree at your leisure, meeting the characters and finding the perfect spot for photos. The short ballet vignettes will occur at scheduled times, allowing you to enjoy both the performance and the enchanting atmosphere.

This special afternoon is a collaboration benefitting two local nonprofits: The Berkeley Springs Castle Foundation and the Virginia Youth Ballet. All proceeds will go toward their missions and all donations are fully tax deductible.

Dancers will be in full costume, ready for photos with you and your guests between scenes.

Tickets are limited to preserve the guest experience.
