Built by 100 German masons over 6 years, the 9,300 square foot Castle is constructed of local silica sandstone, painstakingly brought to the property by horse and wagon in the Gilded Age. The Castle has been modernized over the years while retaining its classic charm, including a lavish ballroom complete with two stone fireplaces and Grand Staircase. With a dungeon tucked into a secret passageway, griffins providing stony vigilance, steep topography maximizing natural defense, and a turreted rooftop with battlements and a spectacular view, the Castle hearkens back to European traditions.

This Columbus Day weekend, join the Berkeley Springs Castle volunteers in celebrating the annual Apple Butter Festival in Berkeley Springs, WV. It's the perfect time to visit and enjoy local art, unique crafts, antiques, regional wines, and, of course, a bountiful selection of hand-crafted apple butter. Watch it being made the traditional way—over open fires on the cobblestone side streets of downtown Berkeley Springs. It's a must-visit for anyone interested in experiencing a taste of traditional Americana.

While at the festival, be sure to visit the Berkeley Springs Castle, where you can see an authentic antique apple cider press and taste fresh cider that you can press yourself. Take a selfie with the Castle parade float, and wander through our beautiful gardens.
